Hello, CFD! I just returned from a vacation out west to Zion National Park and the Grand Canyon — this trip was the perfect reminder of why we do what we do inside the walls of CFD! It was filled with hiking in difficult situations (heat, elevation, rivers, rocks), biking through two national parks, watching a sunset inside the Grand Canyon with my daughter, paddle boarding, swimming in lakes — it was moving nonstop for a week doing active, physical things. (Kids don’t quit lol.) Do I think I could have done all the things alongside my kids if I weren’t a physically fit person? Absolutely not. Being fit and healthy carries over into all areas of life — we get to experience things others can’t! Remind yourself of the benefits of fitness the next time you’re grinding through a tough WOD. It all pays off.
We’ve been continuously seeing partner workouts on Saturdays. I talked a bit about this while coaching this weekend, but I wanted to once again remind all of you wonderful people — don’t ever feel as if you need to skip partner WODs. Sometimes I think we might say to ourselves (myself included), “I don’t want to slow anyone down.” I’d like to take that idea and throw it in the garbage. CrossFit is about community. We all keep coming back because we’re motivated by each other’s presence. If there’s a partner workout that has toes to bar in it, and we have one person who can knock out 10 TTB unbroken, paired with another person who can’t do one (yet), who cares? One can do TTB on the rig and the other can be right next to them doing toes to rig on the ground. Both people are pushing, both are improving, and neither are working out alone. Partner workouts are great for the gentle reminder, “You’re not alone.” Come try it out, I promise it’s one of the biggest benefits of belonging to a gym like CFD!
