Week of June 14, 2021

It’s a very straight forward week this week.  We start the week strong with an NCFit original “RIPCORD”, we have a good solid day of work on Tuesday then what might be the WOD of the week on Wednesday.  The only day that might be more fun this week is Thursday… or Friday… or maybe Saturday… awww heck!  I guess what I’m trying to say is that the programming looks great this week!!  There’s a lot of fun and a lot of work.  If you’re up for a real challenge, please bring you weighted vest in on Saturday for the WOD.  Wink, wink.  ?

In all seriousness, it’s been very HOT both inside and outside of the gym lately.  Please make sure you are hydrating properly.  Remember that once you feel thirsty it’s already too late.  Odds are that you are already dehydrated, and your body is sending signals that you need to drink some water immediately.  The best way to stay in front of this is to count how much water you need, put it in a jug and sip it all day long.  If you need help finding the proper amount of water to drink per day, please talk to a coach.

One last thing.  I had a member say something to me last week that really stood out.  They worked out earlier in the day and were watching me coach one of the later classes.  Afterwards they made the comment “I noticed you don’t coach everyone the same.  What’s up with that!?”.  There was even a hint of inequality in their voice, not in a bad way but unclear on acceptability of movement.  Yeah, yeah, ok.  So, I was riding their butt earlier in the day then let the same movement error go with another athlete later on in the day (no I didn’t just get tired of trying to correct it, lol).  My response was simple.  YES!  You’re correct!  See here’s the way it works.  All of our coaches coach each and every one of our athletes differently.  This is because each and every one of our athletes ARE different.  Please let this sink in for a minute.  How’s that saying go… what good for the goose is good for the gander… well though this may be accurate, how it’s applied needs to be level set.  You see a person who is struggling with simple movement, maybe it’s issues with hitting depth, or maybe they are carrying around some extra pounds.  They need to be coached different that the fire breathing lean mean WOD’ing machine.  Yes, it’s group fitness.  Yes, we are all doing the same basic movements and workout.  But we would be selling a great big injustice if we coached you all the same instead of meeting you all at your level and pushing you how you best respond.  Our goal is to move YOUR fitness forward.  For some that means encouraging them to not put the bar down on their set of 25 deadlifts at 315lbs.  For others it means 5 sets of 5 deadlifts at 25lbs.  Guess what…?  That’s ok.  So next time we’re pushing you more please realize that it’s not always about the best score on the whiteboard, or what the person next to you is doing, or where the person next to you is in the workout relative to you.  It’s about YOU.  And challenging YOU at YOUR level to help YOU the most that we can.  Why else are we coaches if we don’t coach YOU.  Keep being awesome all!  We’ll get there together. ?

Stay cool CFD!!!
