How did everyone do on the re-tests of our 3-reps and one-mile run?? I thought it was a fun + challenging week. The only way I’m able to hold myself to consistent improvement is by comparing my personal scores week to week, month to month, year to year. It’s important to track your efforts. 🙂 Not every day will show improvement, but improvement over longer periods of time is always encouraging to see.
We’re at the beginning of August which means, school will start back up again before we know it! I’ve had some conversations lately about flexible summer schedules and how it’s been feeling good to get a little extra sleep. Once fall hits, don’t be afraid to adjust your schedules so working out and staying healthy FEELS GOOD. Maybe that means doing an evening class once or twice a week, or hitting up one of the later morning classes once a week. Maybe that means taking advantage of our 24/7 access and working out over your lunch hour. Listen to your body and do what feels good. We’re all in this for the long haul, and it’s ok to pivot as the years pass. A few tips …
- Treat sleep like part of your training plan. Aim for 7-9 hours each night. The gains happen while you’re recovering — not just while you’re working out.
- Listen to your body. One extra hour of sleep can sometimes be more beneficial than forcing a workout when you’re exhausted.
- Limit caffeine in the afternoon and evening so it doesn’t interfere with quality sleep.
- Schedule at least one recovery day each week. Rest days aren’t a sign of weakness — they’re part of getting stronger.
Remember: Consistency beats perfection. A well-rested athlete who trains consistently will almost always outperform an exhausted athlete trying to do everything.
