Week of 7/29/19

Welcome Ally and Marco to the Coaching Staff at CFD!!!  We are more than happy to have you both on board.  You are going to do great things for our community!

This is the last week for our kids Summer Camp at CFD.  As I take a little time to think back and reflect over all that the kids have learned and how they have grown over the summer I cannot help but draw lines between those kids and our adults.  It very interesting to me to have watched this process in these kids over the summer.  Here’s how it went in general:

  • Week 1 – Quite, shy, awkward, poor movement patterns, and maximal effort on everything.  We needed to slow them down everywhere!  They spent more time looking at the person working out next to them than worrying about how they were doing and if they were moving well.
  • Week 2 thru 5 – Soreness, tears, frustration, and cheating.  These kids are not as versed in dealing with their emotions as adults.  They cry and give up and don’t hide it as well as adults.  They cheat reps just to keep up with the kid next to them or worse yet don’t perform at their full potential because it’s not cool to do so.  This is where the magic happens.  This is where the daily talks, the technique breakdowns, and the individualized coaching had to take charge.  We kept it fun and kept them improving.
  • Week 6 thru 8 – You would not believe it.  These kids are moving well.  Really, really, really well!  They have learned to turn inward with their mentality.  They do their best and compete with themselves.  They push themselves and when they fail they see it as an area they can grow in.  We are so proud of all they have accomplished.  Yes, they are not perfect.  Yes, they still have bad days or bad workouts.  However, they are loving showing up to the gym and working hard towards improving themselves.

I mention the above because it amazes me how much these kids are like our adults.  I have said time and time again just give us 24 hours.  Well summer camp was 24 hours in the form of 1 hour classes.  These kids went through all of the same stages that adults go through.  The only difference is that mom or dad paid in advance for the classes so there was not an option to back out. ?  We see so many adults quit for the same negative reasons given in weeks 2 thru 5 above.  But they are right on the cusp of everything they want.  Worse yet, we have adults who get through their first 24 classes, then life happens, they stop showing up regularly to the gym.  They need to start all over again.  If you’re tired of starting over then stop quitting in the first place!  Give it time.  Like anything else worth having fitness is a process and it takes time.  So make appointment with yourself, stick to them, and give it time.  You’re worth it and will be there before you know it.  Keep working CFD!!!  We’re here to help you reach your goals.
