THE OPEN IS OVER!!!

Ok guys.  The open is finally over and it’s time to get back to work.  To get back to training as regularly programmed.

I’m going to say it one more time… what is the Open?  It’s a test.  It’s a snapshot of your current fitness level in time.  So take the time.  Really look at what you’ve learned during this Open.  What are your strengths?  What are your weaknesses?  Sit down and write up goals!  Find areas to work on then go after them with intention and purpose.

Just so we are all on the same page… let’s use pull-ups as an example.  Say you were able to get your first ever pull-up by kipping during the open.  This does not mean you are now doing all pull-ups kipping during all workouts.  We still have the same rule of you owing us five strict pull-ups.  This is not a punishment!  This is for your safety!  Ever hear of the term growth mindset?  Let’s talk about this really quick a little bit.  A growth mindset is when you put a plan in place to achieve your goals.  You realize that short term pain will enable long term progress.  Think of going to school so you can get that promotion at work.  Yeah, the school part sucks while you’re in it but once graduated you reap the benefits for years to come.  If you want to be kipping in all workouts slow down and fix what is holding you back.  Get the foundation strength needed to perform kipping pull-ups safely and efficiently.  This strategy will enable long-term growth and progress.  Moving quickly just to be the first one done and get the best score on the whiteboard or risking your safety just for an Rx on the board is not a good plan for long term success.  Slow down, put in the work now, and reap the benefits for years to come.  This is a simple concept that is difficult to put into practice.  It’s difficult because it requires a level of maturity and honesty with one’s self.  Our biggest critic.  I implore you all not to fall for this trap.  After this Open please set goals and work towards them.
