Hello all! Well Spring has certainly sprung, and we will continue to turn up the heat as we move into the summer months. As we move from March to April we will continue to focus on squatting and Olympic weightlifting. In March the loads were light so we could focus on dialing in the technique. However, they will start to build as we move through April. Like spring flowers blooming I can smell some PR’s coming! ?
One question that came up last week was “are we to use the standards from The Open for movements or should we keep doing it how we have always done it?” Some prime examples of this would be stepping both out and in with burpees and using whatever grip we choose for pullups. Well, the answer is we are going to keep doing things how we have always done. Why? Because it’s better for you. That’s why. We are training. Training for life and to be the very best we can be. Watch the top athletes. Did you see them stepping on their burpees? How about using switch grip for pullups? Speed, efficiency, proper biomechanics, and muscular structural balance are some of the main reasons why we train the way we do. The Open this year, allowed more freedom of movement in order to promote inclusivity and make the workouts more palatable. I foresee them continuing this trend in the future, but you never know. They have also waffled back and forth on movement standards in the past. At CFD we likewise have always promoted inclusivity with our workouts, but we do this by using the Rx symbol on the daily scoreboard. We have never stood in the way of someone modifying a workout as they choose. Be that for medical, physical, mental, or other limitations. Yes, we certainly (some could even say strongly) urge athletes to do Rx movement standards. This is because we know what you are capable of. Never as a hinderance or punishment. Our mission is to help you grow and become the best possible version of yourself. We will not accomplish this by always letting athletes take the easy way out. We challenge you because we care.
Speaking of The Open, huge shout out to team Chalk Dirty to Me as they are The CFD Open Cup winners!!! It was a close race but everyone on the team concurred adversity and came out on top. It really came down to the extra points. Way to get out and support your local business team CDtM. Way to go all! We hope everyone at CFD had fun competing in this year’s Open. Even if you did not sign up, now you know what it’s all about and we look forwards to seeing you smash some goals in the future!
