Week 1 guys. We’re back at it again zoning in on our aerobic capacity this week. Enjoy the lighter weights and higher heart rates this week guys!
While I have your attention, I’d like to talk about the proper mentality for CF. We record scores so you can see how far you have come! Not to compare yourself to other or get upset if someone beats you. If this is where your head is at you’re missing the point. Did you start CF or join this gym because you wanted to beat a certain person? Was it because you intended to be a fire breather when working out that everyone else admired? Think back. I highly doubt either was the case. Here’s a fact for you. You’re getting better! It’s no coincidence that most high level athletes claim that they got to where they are by putting in hours upon hours of “Hard Work”. The thing that keeps a person in CF is the reason why they started it in the first place. For me it was to get in top physical shape. To be able to keep up with my growing kids. Once again; think back. Why did you start? What is your “Why”?
So, does it matter if you clean at open gym on Sunday then have cleans in the WOD on Monday? No. Obviously you were working on cleans for a reason. Doing more back to back (with proper form, not pushing weight) will only make you better. Yes, maybe you could have gotten a better score if you had not have cleaned two days in a row but who cares. That does not define who you are. If you’re challenging yourself while maintaining good form and virtuosity then that is the goal. Who cares how you perform relative to the person next to you. It’s your fitness, not theirs!
Here’s one more fact for you. People too weak to follow their own dreams will always find a way to discourage yours… Get around people who want you to win. Challenge the person grinding next to you. Be there for them. Embrace the suck together and grow together. You all are great people. Don’t get so caught up in the competitive side of CF. Put in the hard work and keep your head down, eyes forward
